Cool Bird ID

This one might be a little bit easy, but then again, I better not make any guesses.

I'll post the answer sometime tomorrow, unless the bird hasn't been correctly identified. If so, I might give a clue.

Here it is:

Not Oregon Junco, at any rate.

Hi Michael,

Dark-eyed Junco. This bird shows a hint of a darker hood, so I'll go for intergrade between Slate-colored & Oregon (i.e., bottom right bird on p.501 of Sibley North American Bird Guide)

This is a typical Dark-eyed Junco (slate-colored).

You're all right - it's a Dark-eyed Junco.

We mostly get the Oregon Juncos here but probably one out of twenty is a Slate-colored Junco. This one could be a hybrid. It seems likely, but I think that it's just a Slate-colored.

I'll leave that up to you.

Hi Michael,

I thought possible intergrade because the head & upper mantle is slightly darker than the lower mantle - a hint of an Oregon Junco's hood
