The software "Zoombrowser EX4.1" that comes with the Canon G5 provides this functionality it is called "Remote Capture" and allows viewing of the live output of the camera on your computer screen as well as full control of focus/zoom options and time lapse shooting.

You have the option to record to the computers hard disk or the camera memory card.

This link will take you to worldwide sites with further info on the camera

Thanks for the help...Settled for the G-3, Next on the agenda id to fabricate an electric alt-azmith gimball. should be fun in itself. I have visions of mounting "dummys" at varios places in the yard that can be replaced with "The Real Mcoy" as not to confuse the little habit formers.

An alternative approach is to use the AV socket on the camera connected up to a TV/Video Recorder or as in my case a computer TV card. It's okay for movie clips, but still quality isn't that good.

For remote use of the camera for normal still photos you can also download a remote camera control program but only for Olympus cameras on this link, Pine Tree Computing Camera Controller, a free program, which allows your computer to control the camera settings and even time lapse. It's a while since I used it, but it is compatible with several models. A nifty little program.

G3 - good choice for price/performace balance - identical optics to G5.

Just to clarify for others interested - Zoombrowser software is available for free download from the Canon Sites on the Web.

Look forward to hearing more of your electronic decoys - do take some shots of them with your new G3 and post to the forum please.

Durring my search for parts for my electric head, motors, bearings, gears and such I ran into an affordable PTZ unit. I will call them today when it's late enough and if it's what I think it is...it's on the way. check'em out .... http://www.123cctv.com/cctv/pan-tilt-zoom.html I willl make up some burlap "covers" to put on top of any mounts I install throughout the "bird area" and make up a bag for the PTZ as well. I chose the interior unit because the camera is of interior quality. I will have to pick it up and put it away at the end of the day. I think I should be able to get up real close with this system. The prize for the effots I hope will be some Raptor Shot's. We have a sharp shined hawk and a red tailed hawk that come every winter to feed on the smaller birds. They both have preferred dinning locations. Camera location should be a "no brainer" My first big hurdle will be to figure out how to get the photo from the camera to the message board. This is my first attempt at digital photography. I think I will start off with some pics of our sparrows.

It is possible to use Olympus digital camera with inPhoto camera control software (TWAIN driver) providing the full camera control from PC and time lapse capture ability. More details are here: http://www.akond.ru.

Thumbs up easy job

the system requires cctv cameras and a video capture card with watermark function. with this function, the recorded image should be good enough to be presented as evidence.

you can visit this link for wireless camera http://www.cctv-camera.cc/product/TT-811C2.asp or buy a camera with a set of wireless av transmitter.
For camera: http://www.cctv-camera.cc/product/TT-ASO32C.asp
For wireless av transmitters: http://www.cctv-camera.cc/product/TT-WAVT100.asp (1.2Ghz and 2.4Ghz available)

thus you can connect them with your pc to make a cool surveillance system!
