    Having a stretch

In the summer, when our shallow lake normally dries completely, Black-shouldered Kites visit to hunt mice. They use dead tree stumps as a vantage point and become quite comfortable with me hanging around.
  4. Black-shouldered

    Black-shouldered

One of my favourite small raptors, I am always drawn in by the piercing red eyes of these Kites. We had been to Port Parham, north of Adelaide searching for shorebirds. No good captures there, but this Kite was sitting in a tree alongside the road as we left. Made the trip worthwhile.

    Hovering

Only out for a few minutes today, but were entertained by this Black-shouldered Kite hovering quite close to us and not disturbed by our presence. As it is our favourite raptor, it was a wonderful time pressing the shutter about 180 times in those few minutes.

    Black-shoulddered Kite

Another shot of the Black-shouldered Kite taken last weekend. Even after a week, I can still sense the authority of this beautiful raptor.

    Piercing glare!

This has been a long week-end in Oz, as we have a national holiday on 25th April for ANZAC Day, when we remember our fallen servicemen. Judy & I have sent the weekend camping at McLaren Vale, one of our top wine districts south of Adelaide. We were returning to our campsite when Judy...
