On the way back from Skne, we stopped off at Lake Tkern. After our success with terns in Skanr, I was hoping for Caspian and Black terns and wasn't disappointed. It would have been nice to get a bit closer but the sky is quite dramatic.

This year I was able to take decent photographs not only of the adult Caspian Tern but of this juvenile too.

Always a joy to see these large terns and I've seen quite a few this year.

    Caspian Tern

Came across a handful of Caspian Terns today, first time I have seen this specie at this location. Quite a lot of action, some flew by close enough (100m) to get reasonably detailed photos.

    More that one can chew?

They say one should not bite off more that one can chew! I'm not sure whether this Caspian Tern was ever told that, but it was having a good try and was not letting its catch get away as it flew of into the distance. This has been heavily cropped, but we wanted to share the catch.

Another pic from our Victor Harbor trip last weekend. Several Caspian Tern were regularly cruising the coastline searching for a meal - always wonderful to watch.

Off to Norway for a three-day conference early tomorrow morning. Probably no posts for three days as I'm leaving my laptop at home and taking my camera instead. The next posts will be from Lesvos in July.
