    Please identify this bird

    We live in southern california in Pasadena. For the last several weeks this bird has been sitting for long periods of time in our yard. It is at least 18 inches tall and its wing span is at least 3 feet. It stays quiet and not easily disturbed. I have not heard any sound from this bird.
