American Redstart look-alike? (1 Viewer)

Last weekend we went Birding in Huatulco, Mexico. We were in a wooded area at about 500 M elevation. One of the birds we haven't been able to identify was what behaved like (flitting from branch to branch, displaying tail and wings) and looked like a female American Redstart.

What doesn't fit is that we couldn't see ANY yellow wing patches or chest flashes of yellow. The tail had the typical yellow markings of the Redstart. All of the other coloring matched the Redstart.

Is there another bird that is that close to the American Redstart or does the Female American Redstart occassionally NOT have the yellow wing patches?

Thanks,

Hi Dave,

Juvenile/first-winter female American Redstarts don't have any yellow in the wing, but do in the tail. Sounds exactly like what you had!

Hi Dave,

This thread reminded me that I received a post update from the forum. It indicated that you had posted something to the Warbler list thread. When I checked, no post! Did you, in fact, post to that thread?
