Brambling, Peak District UK (1 Viewer)

Seen in woodland near Chapel-en-le-Frith yesterday (8th April). There were several finch-type birds in the same tree along with Nuthatch, Great Tit, Blue Tit.

I was surprised to see Brambling at such a late date, but the first pic is undoubtedly a male Brambling (even if I can't figure out what the hell is going on with its head! Maybe it moved just as the camera was focusing?).

I'm wondering about the second bird though (same bird in both pics) - it seems very plain but maybe too orangey for a female Chaffinch? But also doesn't look much like female Bramblings I've seen before...

Hello Steve,

I agree with you, the second bird (in the first two pictures) is a Brambling just by the right and unique colours/hues in the right areas.

Unusual for a "female type" Brambling is the appearant all blackish bill (difficult to judge due to backlit?), but still a Brambling imo.
