Carolina Wrens disappeared (2 Viewers)

Where have our Carolina Wrens gone? And should I remove their unused nest from our garage? A Carolina wren has built a nest in our garage behind a battery charger on a shelf about 4 feet off the ground. We'd had a nest last year in a different part of the garage (and had watched the little ones hatch and fledge:), and so we again started leaving the side door to the garage propped open so the wren could get in and out when the garage door was closed. The next got bigger every day and finally looked like it was finished. Most of a week went by and no sign of the wrens. At one point when she was almost finished with the nest she'd knocked off the instruction booklet that had been resting on the charger and slightly hanging over the top of the nest. When we noticed no activity we put the manual back on top of the charger thinking she may have liked it there, and we moved a trash can so we didn't have to pass by the nest to put out the trash, thinking perhaps that had disturbed her. A few days later and still no sign of her, and we realize we've not seen the wrens at all in the yard either- they used to hang around the back of the house and perch on the roof outside one of our windows - and there has been no activity in the nest. Should we leave the nest in place? Have they likely gone on to another nest? Thanks.
