Eagle & Herons Shot In Hawk Mt. Area (1 Viewer)

Guilty Plea entered in killings of Bald Eagle and 5 Herons

A man charged with killing a Bald Eagle and 5 Great Blue Herons near Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court. He paid almost $5000.00 in fines and he could still be subject to Federal Charges for the death of the Eagle.

These offenses took place below Bake Oven Knob a popular observation site where visitors watch the Fall Raptor Migration in Eastern Pennsylvania.

He'd get away with it here, perhaps a slap on the wrist.

Based on what I have seen in the past the punishment he received is typical of these kind of crimes in Pennsylvania although this one was notable for the numbers of birds killed. The fact that he pleaded guilty and paid the fines promptly probably kept the sentence lower. I suspect that the legality of the pond he put on his land is also being investigated but nothing was mentioned about that. It may be there legally.

Poachers who shoot game out of season or for profit can get bigger fines and will lose their licenses to hunt.
