First Lesser Nighthawks of the year -- southern AZ (1 Viewer)

Summer is almost here. I saw the first Lesser Nighthawks of the year tonight. Wonderful sight. Sometimes a half-dozen or more at one time swooping down low to catch bugs. When I was a kid there were Nighthawks where I lived in the summer and we would throw rocks up in the air and watch them dive after the rocks, they must have thought it was a bug of some sort. I grew up in a midwestern US city and they would fly around the street lights all night long.

Well, it was in the low 90s today and a pleasant 80 degrees now just after sunset. Summer will have officially arrived (for me) when I hear the first cicadas on the first really hot day -- a couple of weeks from now.
