Hello everyone! I’m a medieval musician and bird lover (1 Viewer)

Hello, I’m Emily and I come from the UK but now live in Switzerland. I have loved birds since I was a kid. I had a particular obsession with birds of prey which hasn’t yet started to wane.

Introductory story time: A few years back I was birding in the Basel area and spotted a woodpecker (no pun intended..?) through my binoculars. A couple walked by and asked me what bird it was, but I didn’t know the word in German. However, I DID know the word in Medieval English - totally normal I know - so thinking that the languages come from the same medieval melting pot, I said hopefully ‘it’s a… spek?’ and they understood it perfectly. ‘Ah, Specht!’ I was very proud of myself but they probably just thought I had a terrible accent.

Looking forward to exploring the forum and e-meeting you!

Emily
