Hi 👋 I am incorporating birdwatching into my daily walks so as to add some distraction to the many steps i am taking, I am very lucky to have a variety of places to walk locally, Hills, Canalside and even a natural marsh, so i see lots of variety.

I have two queries if anyone has any ideas why ? 1, i have not seen a coot on the canal for 2 years now where previously they were fairly common and this year we did not get any Redwing of Fieldfare the nearby wood this winter, normally there are loads of them? I am now wondering if the amount of walkers has made them move to quieter pastures?

Have a great Day!
Gordon

Hi Gordon and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

All things Scottish can be found here. Also, keep an eye on threads titled something like Scottish Bashes; we try to meet up occasionally and they're always great fun. You'd be most welcome to join us on another if you can manage (and we're ever allowed to meet as groups again!!)

As to your questions, I'm not too sure, but no doubt it's all to do with food availability.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Welcome to Birdforum! I am sure that you will find lots to interest you here and I hope that you enjoy your visits.

Hi Gordon, welcome to the forum. Sorry, can’t help with your question.

Hello Gordon from snowy Uddingston in Lanarkshire. While I don't have a proper answer for your Redwing and Fieldfare question, its a phenomenon that I've noticed in Lanarkshire this year. No massed flocks, even in previously reliable places. It will be interesting if we suddenly see massed flocks near migration time.
