I have a male red-bellied woodpecker who visits my yard who is unusual. It has the normal black-striped pattern but the underlying feathers are a very distinctive blue-gray color. How can this be??

Hi Tracy and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. Sorry, I can't help you with this query, but hopefully someone will be along later with some ideas for you.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Hi Tracy, welcome to the forum. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group. The only thing I can think of is some sort of color aberration.

The forum is quite large and can be confusing at times. If you need help while learning your way around just let us know.
