Hello

I would like to know a little more about a pair of Vintage Swift Binoculars Model 712 Sport Star 7×35. I sent a e-mail to swift and this is the reply they sent Me.
They are a European model which means they were made by the European Swift Company that closed several years ago.

They are similar to our Aerolite collection.

We all use the BaK4 glass.

They sold for around $99 back in 1967.

They are in excellent condition.

Thank you for your interest in Swift products.

Jessie at Swift. I put $99 dollars in a calculater and at todays price that is $832 looking at the lens it says Trilar lens what type of lens is this any help about the bonoculars would be most welcome thankyou for any replies.

Trilar seems to be some sort of proprietary coating that Swift used at the time. On eBay that model seems to go for $50‐$60 now.

Hello Bauska,

Welcome to Bird Forum.

The Swift 7x35 Model 712 Sportstar was marketed by Swift Instruments, Inc. between 1966 and 1969. In 1969 it sold in the USA for $70.95 retail. The attachment shows pg. 6 from the 1969 Swift Catalog. My records indicate that this model used BK7 prisms.

Ed, as always, you're being too kind. Of course, they used Bk7 prisms. In 1969, few people even knew about BaK4.

Also, Bauska, welcome aboard! Swifts were not made in the USA or Europe. They came off the shelf from Japan. Like Dave Bushnell, Humphrey Swift was an importer, not a manufacturer.

Specifically, these were produced in Japan by Miyako Seiku Co., JB-32, and Musashi Kogaku, JB-34. Presumably, those marks can be found on the binoculars.

Thanks, Bill.
