How easy is it to find Irish Hare in Ireland, are they as reliable at Dublin airport as I am led to believe? I will be visiting friends over there next week. Also is this an actual species or a subspecies or somewhere between the two? The mammal society includes it as a species in their list of 107 british and irish mammals here - UK Mammal List - The Mammal Society, but everywhere else seems to suggest it is only a subspecies?? Trying to keep a mammal list is so confusing!

Thanks
Sarah

As far as taxonomy is concerned, according to the current Mammalwatching world checklist Irish Hare remains part of Mountain Hare. The most fanatical mammal listers on the planet don't yet think it has been split, so I guess it hasn't.

Good luck at Dublin Airport. I do know people who have scored there, by driving around the long-term parking and checking the open grass of the airport I think. Taxi drivers have been known to take the job.
