Hello, I have a question about Accipiter, not sure if it's the Japanese or the Eurasian Sparrowhawk.

I found it in December last year. Songkhla lakeside area, Thailand

Thank you.

Welcome to Bird Forum, Kittakorn!

It's not a Sparrowhawk at all in my opinion - the bill shape and size, the eye and the tail pattern all rule out Sparrowhawk for me - but, hey.

I have no experience of your region, but the tail pattern and the eye ring suggest to me one of the Hawk-Eagles, maybe Mountain Hawk Eagle.

However, the way the yellow eye-ring extends backwards seems very distinctive, so I'm sure that someone who is familiar with the region will be able to identify this quickly.

Hi Kittakorn
Welcome to BF
It's clearly an Accipiter but same as MacNara I don't get Eurasian Sparrowhawk vibes here, the jizz is simply wrong (tail length, bill). Unfortunately I have no experience at all with Japanese

I agree it doesn't feel like Eurasian Sparrowhawk, which is presumably not very common here anyway. The distinct yellow eye-ring rules out Shikra. Japanese looks a good option to me.

Yes, I think a Japanese Sparrowhawk juvenile would have an eye like that, and other things fit. Apologies for not thinking more when I first posted.
