The Sunday bird walk went to the Plummer Road side of the Englishman River in Parksville. The morning was sunny and very hot!

Two Pileated Woodpeckers were seen feeding on the trunk of a big tree next to the trail. Several Killdeer, a Least Sandpiper, a Western Sandpiper and two Semipalmated Plover were seen on the mudflats. Many Canada Geese, two Surf Scoters, two Pigeon Guillemots and a Marbled Murrelett were seen on the Strait of Georgia.
Nine birders including a visiting birder from California saw and heard the following forty-six species:

Saturday, July 28:
A Great Horned Owl was seen visiting a backyard in the 700 block of Victoria Road in south Nanaimo.

Monday, July 23:
A Pacific Slope Flycatcher, a Willow flycatcher, a Coopers Hawk, a Belted Kingfisher a Yellow-rumped Warbler, a Cassin’s Vireo, a Warbling Vireo
A Greater Yellowlegs, a Turkey Vulture and a Bald Eagle were seen at Rivers Edge Park in Parksville:

A White Raven was spotted between the east and west sides of Morningstar Creek along highway 19 in Parksville.

The Tuesday bird walks will resume in the fall.

The Sunday bird walk on August 05, 2018 will be going to Bowen Park in Nanaimo. Meet at the Backyard Wildbird and Nature Store, 314 Metral Drive in Nanaimo, at 9:00 am or at the main parking lot near the lawn bowling green at Bowen Park off Bowen Road at about 9:15 am.
