new books to Cuba (4 Viewers)

Today's local newspaper reprinted a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorial about the concern expressed by the American Bookseller's Association and others that the prohibition against exporting books to the island has not been lifted. Am not sure how serious the problem really is, but wonder if birders contemplating an adventure there might wisely bring an extra copy or two of the new Comstock field guide (by Garrido & Kirkconnell) as gifts for local guides. Is the work widely available in Cuba?

I have seen it with our local guides on my recent trip. However, books (and binoculars!) are still thin on the ground and highly appreciated by the local birders. They are also good in distributing things to other birders or guides in need. So Gary's idea is a good one!
