Not everybody would agree with that evaluation! Conveniently compact, but not very useful when you need to compare several species. The great advantage comes for me in the form of added calls and songs. But not every FG has them so far anyway.
Weird, innit. Despite various discussions of this subject within these pages I still find it mysterious that (at least) a straightforward PDF is not produced and made freely available for every f/g purchaser. I suspect, ultimately (and obviously), it's the profit-motive operating - but exactly how and why I don't know. Producing nothing more complicated than a PDF is cost-free for the publisher and would add value and appeal for many many purchasers: it's 95% as good as an app (and 100% as good as a poor app, which is what some of the most popular ones are, eg Svensson).
I'm certain sure it's within the wit of commerce to fix that problem - and I doubt that it is one. I've bought Kindle books that are (functionally) the same as a PDF but I have no means of giving them to someone else.
