Hi all,
Birdlife International has a story (http://www.birdlife.org/news/news/2005/04/thrasher.html) on a hotel development that will threaten 22 % of the world breeding population of white breasted thrasher. Interestingly, the funding for the hotel is at least in part from the European Investment Bank, and built by The UK-based developer, Design Construction Group (DCG). The other interesting fact is that the project is linked to St Lucia’s hosting of the Cricket World Cup in 2007.
Anyone have any ideas of how to influence any of these parties, especially the Bank? My take is that without the funding, the project falls.
Another species that is threatened by this project is the endangered St Lucia whip-tailed lizards on Praslin Island.
Cheers
Niels
