    Berlin Treecreeper, mid-March

I saw this Treecreeper in a Berlin park last week. It was in a similar area to a firecrest, being creepy. I left my Collins at Home (yes, I know) and haven't really convinced myself either way. From what I can figure out on ebird, Berlin is Tree-creeper overlap territory. My best guess (and...

    Finch?, Hampshire, UK, Bramshott Chase

I would love to know people's thoughts on this bird. It felt finch-sized and shaped but I couldn't see much contrast and the photo isn't much better. From the Collins guide, I think my best guess is Linnet - anyone have a better idea? Thanks Richard

    Sure-fire Willow Tit in December?

I am driving from Edinburgh to Surrey on December 15th (ugh) and would love to stop off somewhere with a high chance of a Willow Tit. I have never seen one, and I would love to. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can stop off almost anywhere, I suppose. Thanks a lot, Richard

    Keflavik stopover March 20th

I will be at Keflavik from 6am to 2pm on March 20th (travelling from the US to Denmark). Failing any other plan, I thought of taking a cab from the airport to some coast (maybe due north to the lighthouse at the point?). Any local info would be welcomed! Potential lifer targets: Iceland +...

    December Northeast

I am driving from Newcastle to Edinburgh on December 12th (visiting from the US). I was hoping to spend the non-driving time birding, and was wondering where to go: UK birds I haven't seen include: the eiders, velvet scoter, whooper swan, storm petrel, the grouses, Arctic Loon, red-necked...

New Zealand passerine, black and white?

With apologies, I am looking through a family-members photos trying to put names to their birds, so I have no useful information on size, location etc, but it looks to me like this bird should be immediately recognisable to someone familiar with the options and/or in possession of a field guide...

    Utah in Mid April

I am in Utah for a work trip mid-April and am thinking of three days' birding. My question is whether there will be too much snow in the Salt Lake region to see a variety of habitat, or whether we should start in Vegas and work from teh wartm end up? Any thoughts and local knowledge welcomed.

    South Korea... Steller's Sea Eagle?

This one will likely be consigned to the nearly bin, but I thought I'd post to see if anyone thinks of anything. I saw upward of six White-tailed Sea Eagles on the river at Paldang, near Seoul (mostly west of the subway stop), and was desperate for a Steller's which never materialised. The...

    Birding from Incheon

I arrive at Incheon at 9am on a Sunday. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could try visiting that day? Is there anywhere local to the airport that I could check out? Most of my stay I will be in Daejeon working, and I am hoping ot get to Seosan to see Baikal Teal, but I am still...

    Sparrows, Owings Mills MD

I had these logged as Chipping Sparrows at the time, but review of the pictures with two books leaves me much less certain... is the eye ring too pronounced? is that a chest spot? Grateful for any advice. Taken lunchtime today, in a flock of 20-odd birds in scrub 0-5 ft off the ground... my...

    Aspen, Colorado, 11000ft January

I realise these pictures are terrible, but I wondered if there is any chance of narrowing down what these birds are based on location, altitude and season? The pics were sent by a friend. Thanks. Rich

    First-time in Melbourne and Carless

Can anyone recommend where to go for a carless visitor? I am in Melbourne for about ten days on work, but may be able to fit in three days of birding. I haven't birded in Australia before, so everything will be new. Any details of where to go, how to get there, offers of rides ;-) etc would be...

Sydney, Australia, odd tail, bird of prey?

My trawl through old pics continues. The closest I have got so far is an Australian Sea Eagle, but the plumage is different... Thanks for any help, Ricahrd

Willow/Marsh Tit by location? Grayshott/Hindhead, Hants, UK

I have seen a few postings that say which tit is more abundant in different places. Is there a UK version of e-bird that will tell me this information? Or can anyone tell me which is more likely. I couldn't hear anything and lost it... but it was definitely not a coal tit. Thanks

    Long beak, Singapore, July

Going back through some pre-birding pictures of Singpore (on Sentosa island), I have these three of a long-beaked bird. I looked through an online photo guide to Singapore and saw relatively few similar bids - is this identifiable? Thanks for the help, Richard

Birding near Airports During Flight Connections

Does anyone know of a website that specifically suggests places to bird during a flight connection? e.g. if I have 6 hours at LAX where should I go? 3 hours at LHR, etc etc etc...? I would think that there would be a website, but I can't find anything. I am trying to plan a long journey...

Common Tern or Little Tern, S England

I was very excited today at Church NOrton (along with Sandwich Terns). I was originally satisfied based on white forehead and small size, but now I am concerned about whether I ruled out a winter common tern... Could anyone tell me whether Common Tern would be in winter plumage yet (with...

Small Birds, bad pics, Hants UK

These are a selection of pictures of small birds on Bramshott Common (heathland - gorse, heather, ferns, small birch trees... My best guess is Stonechats and linnets - I'd appreciate any help.

    Redstarts, Frensham Common, Hants UK

During a short walk we chased up several ~10 in a small area at different times in low gorse vegetation. It seems like both Common and Black are possible - how much more likely are Common? No looks good enough to see which properly, but interested to know the odds. Thanks, Richard

    Shorebird, Baltimore MD

Would be interested to hear any thoughts about this unidentified shorebird. The angle is funny - taken from a very high bridge almost directly above the bird. Size-wise, it looked large-ish - about yellowleg size. Thanks, Richard
