    Dartfords about anywhere?

Didn't manage to get to Crooksbury unfortunately, but have just got in from a 3 hour walk around Chobham Common, where we found four. Others of note were a Hobby, and several Nightjars at dusk.

    Dartfords about anywhere?

Hi all. I'm coming down to Surrey from Cumbria for a few days next week, and was wondering if there any chance of making contact with a Dartford Warbler? I'll be staying in Woking. Any help gratefully received - thanks in advance. Steve.

Super views of SEO from the causeway at Lindisfarne yesterday - in flight on the way over, and perched on a post on the way back :-)

    Surrey Birding

Thanks Matt. I'm not familiar with Staines Moor - could you give me a bit more info please, eg where to park, and where is best to view from... I'm going to be very short on time, so really don't want to waste time in the wrong place ;-) Thanks, Steve.

Anyone know if the SEOs are back at Papercourt Meadows this year? I'll be coming down at Christmas, and if they are, we would love to see them again. Thanks Steve.

    Sizergh Hawfinches

Get there as early as you can. The car park may well be closed, so park where you can, and walk down to the shop/cafe, where you can view from under the verandah. Most likely to be around the new children's play area, but could turn up anywhere. Leighton Moss RSPB is only a few miles away...

    Surrey Birding

Just a quick thank you for all the Papercourt SEO info. I was down visiting family for Xmas, and popped down to Papercourt Meadows on Xmas Eve. Turned up a bit too early, and had a long cold wait, but had a good chat with some of the other birders there, so nothing lost. Cracking views of a...

    Sunrise/sunset.

From Sunday evening, but only just got round to looking. Sunset through the fog wasn't great, but it was better than the birds, which were completely hidden.

    Moth ID please, Cumbria UK

Don't know what this is, but it was feeding on my Valerian plants after dark this evening, hovering around rather like a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, only a bit smaller. Anyone ID it for me?

    Spots in Lake District

Perhaps a little out of the way for you, but if you want a good winter's day out, try the drive north from Workington along the Solway coast - vast flocks of geese, and lots of waders too, with a good chance of Merlins at Skinburness, and Hen Harrier at Campfield. Hen Harrier can also be a...

    Macro Lens Recommendation

Personally, before shelling out a lot on cash on a lens, I'd suggest getting a few 'extras' and playing with them. eg a reversing ring would allow you to reverse mount a standard lens for close macro, or a wide angle for extremely close macro. The addition of extension tubes would add further...

    Surrey Birding

Red tailed kite Ex Surrey birder here, now living in Cumbria. Been getting emails from my sister in New Haw (near Woking), re a large BOP that's been around her area for some while. I had assumed it was a Buzzard from her description, but she's just sent me a photo: Edit: just spoken to her...

    UK gull ID please

Saw this last weekend at Silloth, along with about a dozen or so Herring gulls. I 'think' its a GBB, but its no bigger that the herring gulls. Also, the lack of white spots on the wing tips, and the 'stripy' tail have me confused (as usual). Confirmation would be appreciated - thanks :t:

    UK - Skua?

Terrible photos, but wondered if anyone can confirm what Skua this is please? Seen last week in Portree harbour, Skye. Thanks, Steve.
