Sarasota, Florida Hooded Merganser sites? (1 Viewer)

I shall be in Sarasota in early January and know my way to some of the obvious sites (Lake Myakka etc.). But does anyone happen to know any good sites in the general area for wintering Hooded Merganser?

I have seen them frequently at the Celery Fields in Sarasota. It is easily reached off of Fruitville Rd and always has something to see. Best of Luck!

I see looking at the Sarasota Audubon site that the Sarasota Christmas Bird Count will be on Jan 5, 2008. I don't know when you will be in Sarasota, but if anyone knows where certain birds are, they will. I took part in the Bradenton count last week-end and my group went to places I never even knew were there.

That's kind- I will be on way home by 5 Jan but good news on Hooded front- I arrived in Sarasota yesterday evening and by a happy chance got dragged off to Macys at Sarasota Sq Mall this morning where 8 Hooded Mergs at point blank range on the car park drainage ditch..so I'm a rather happy chap.
