The last day of 2003 dawned bright & sunny & in the very light North wind very mild too. A brief Sea watch off Ness Point produced 48 Common Scoter flying north in a long string followed later by flocks of 12, 40 18 & 12 all flying North. The last flock settled on the sea for a while. Otherwise a single Fulmar flew north, one Shelduck south & three Red –throated Divers North along with five Wigeon. In Hamilton Dock there were two immature Shag, 41 Great Black backed Gulls & 14 Turnstone. Nearby there were two Sanderling. In Children’s Corner on the south beach there was a fine 2nd Winter Med Gull.

By far the most unusual sighting was of a pair of Egyptian Geese by the southern end of the Bascule Bridge settled down by the inner dock oblivious to the public walking past.
On return to Hamilton Dock I saw a Herring Gull with a BTO ring on it’s right leg. It read as far as I could see. 6G92871.

Roll on the New Year when we start all over again.
