Good morning,

What kind of crawler is this?
It was about 5 cm long, black and it crawled slowly.
It was in Donana, Huelva, Andalucia.

Hi Joern,

It looks like Meloe proscarabaeus, but I guess it's much longer. Can't find any other Meloe on the net that is that long.

Hi Andre,

You probably cannot get the species from the photo I think, as most Meloe are quite similar-looking and should be determined only with a microscope.

Question,

There was a reddish fluid on its side. Was this because it was alarmed, like I read on the net?
