Part of the Ringing Scheme in Bulgaria is ringing near Atanasovsko Lake (Bourgas District). Being a typical bottle-neck site of international significance, the wetland is among the most famous birdwatching spots in Europe with over 300 species registered. The activity will start at the middle of August and will continue to the end of September. While ringing numerous passerines (like Spanish Sparrows, Willow, Marsh, Great Reed, Reed, Sedge, Savi's, River and other Warblers, Black-headed Yellow Wagtails, Barn Swallows, Red-backed Shrikes, Penduline Tits, Bearded Reedlings, Bee-eaters, Kingfishers etc.), you could observe flocks of White and Dalmatian Pelicans, White and Black Storks, Honey Buzzards, Short-toed Eagles, Marsh and Montagu's Harriers, Lesser Spotted Eagles, Red-footed Falcons, also individuals of Levant Sparrowhawks, Black Kites, Booted and Imperial Eagles, Long-legged Buzzards and many more birds using the “Via Pontica” flyway. For the participants tailor-made itineraries along the Black Sea Coast could be organized for exploring various other habitats, perfect for watching waders, gulls, terns, waterfowl etc. If you want to ring along professional trainers from the Bulgarian Ornithological Centre (part of the Institute of Zoology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), observe the migration along the Black Sea Coast or just experience the Bulgarian wildlife, please contact me at the following mail: [email protected]
