I had 500mm lens plus 2x extender on the 1D MkIII (crop factor 1.3) and I still had to crop heavily to get the bird a reasonable size. I'm sure, with luck and patience, one could get a much better shot.
I looked at your Flickr galleries earlier - you have some superb shots there!

The wee beauty is still there this morning at 06.45hrs (i called in on my cycle to work), at least you where able to get a record shot Karl, my camera is away back to canon for major heart surgery, the shutter has packed up i think.
