County Leitrim Birding (1 Viewer)

Let's get started! . . . County Leitrim must be the most "underwatched" County in Ireland. The Leitrim Branch of Birdwatch Ireland is not quite fully up and running. Those in the area mostly post on the Sligo Branch. Even so, although very interesting sites, there are no discussion forums. So let's start to put lovely Leitrim on the birding map! Please post any snippets of interest here. Including, photographs of birds, flowers, butterflies, wildlife or anything at all as long as it's from lovely Leitrim.

Hi John!

Looking for Merganser sightings around Lough Allen (for www.loughallenbasin.com) from early August and happened on your thread. Great stuff. Have you, by any chance, any sightings from anywhere on Lough Allen from eary August to end of September/ early October? Trying to track where they go; we have seen them in winter quarters in Sligo Bay... but 1st October is the earliest date there. Where are they between August and end of September!

Seventeen Siskins and two Redpoll on our Bird Feeder last Sunday 27th November... Most Siskins I've seen around the place. Crossbills always around but very flighty!

Hello Frances.

Yes I see what you mean. Most of my records around that time are also in the Sligo areas. The Siskins are feeding on my feeders again now after being absent for some weeks. Would love to see the Crossbills. Lucky you. Thanks for the post.

Hi John,

Any of your Merganser records from lakes north of Lough Allen, by any chance? Wondering if they stop off anywhere on their way to the coast, like Belhavel Lake, Lough Gill, Meelagh, etc...

Saw one Brambling the other day near our house, in a flock of Chaffinches and Greenfinch. But it hasn't appeared again... yet! And the weather doesn't help...

Best wishes,

Frances

Peregrine Falcon

Peregrine Falcon just before the junction where the Dowra Road (R207) meets the N16 at Mullagahy. The bird was way off. So this image has been cropped quite a lot.

Angry Mute Swan!

Mute Swan not happy with the intrusion of Icelandic Whooper Swans on his local patch! This commotion was photographed on Lough Annagh Co. Leitrim in February.
