Just saw a news item about a 7.6 earthquake in NW CR. I sincerely hope that the damage will be less than expected and that everything is good with the people we know from CR.

I sure hope so too Niels.

Take care all our friends in CR.

My thoughts go out to our friends down there, and to the rest of C.R.

Yes, a strong one happened yesterday with the epicenter at the Pacific coast kind of near Samara. Whole country felt it and it was so strong that I expected to see telephone posts down and other damage. Fortunately, there was little damage given the size of the quake- structural damage in San Jose and in Guanacaste and some collapsed houses but not as much as the Cinchona quake. So far, two deaths have been reported, one of which was from a heart attack. Roads were affected in a few places but not even as much as what has happened during consistent, heavy rains. We lucked out overall and since a big quake has been predicted for that area for some time, lets hope that this was it!

I wrote a little post about earthquakes and birding at my blog.

On another note, we recently had the first Birding and Nature Festival in Costa Rica to support a home-grown Cerulean Warbler project. I will be reporting on that as soon as I get the chance (next week).

It's lovely to hear from you Patrick and to know all is well with you.

Thanks so much for the update.
