Birdwatching in Maharashtra (1 Viewer)

South Maharashtra

A hop across the border from Goa to the north is the lovely state of Maharashtra. In the past we have been to Reddie fort and the so called 'Paradise beach'. Great area to bird watch, about 30 mins from Terekol Fort in North Goa.
This year we have gone further north. A 3 hour drive took us to Malvan which is a fishing village/town which has a fort on an island accessible by boat. We have just returned from 2 nights in Malvan town it's self but there are several excelent beaches close by which offer good accommodation, especially Tarkarli beach.

It has a varied habitat. On the way to Angane wadi, which has a famous temple, you drive up a hill through thick jungle and bird off the side of the road. Great views of the tree tops. We had good views of a pair of Pied Hornbills. There were many of the birds you expect to see though lots of Black Lored Tits for some reason.
On the way home we stopped at a dry paddy field area and saw a Hoopoe as well as many different larks and pipits.
So if you have the time and want to explore the region at bit more then I recommend a look at this lovely state.
