Iberian Peninsula is a popular birdwatching destination. In Portugal birdwatchers traditionally visit the southern part of the country. However, the north of Portugal can offer equal variety of habitats and rich avifauna. We would like to break the trend and invite you to the north, to Trás-os-Montes and many surrounding Important Bird Areas. We would be grateful if you helped us develop Birdwatching Trás-os-Montes by filling out this questionnaire: http://goo.gl/forms/hOiEwOVkAT
Trás-os-Montes region is a region of semi-mediterranean climate, dominated by continental influence coming from the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, which gives it very hot and dry summers and cold winters considering the latitude of the area; temperatures go commonly below zero in winter. It's very rich in diversity of habitats, both natural and constructed by men. They range from mountains, oak forests, highlands and steppes with agriculture fields, to olive, almond tree and cork woods. Steep and rocky river valleys, as well as milder ones covered with vines and olive trees, as well as water reservoirs constructed by men, are also characteristic of the area.
