Cambodia for a month (2 Viewers)

gary1952

Second childhood and loving it.
Well I finally got my pickup truck across the border of Thailand into Cambodia. Cambodia gave me a one month visa. So, now have to figure out where to go and where to bird.
I am a photographer (hobby only) so that is what I want to do mostly.

Is there anyone that can give me some good birding advice here in Cambodia.

I just arrived in Siam Reap, Cambodia today. I drove to the boat ramp and asked around. Got quoted 50 dollars for a run out to PREK TOAL. But, am thinking a guide would be a better idea? Not sure.

As you can tell I have the time now. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Gary

In Cambodia, the Sam Vaesna Centre is the agency of choice for guided tours. Their website also gives a good overview on the sites of Cambodia: http://www.samveasna.org/bird-sites.html

Their tours are not cheap, but good, and the profit goes to conservation of the sites you visit. Most of the good remoter sites are not really feasible without an agency, as there is no infrastructure for food and accomodation, and sites are not easy to find. As you have you own car, that might bring down to costs of the tours though...

Some sites around Siam Reap can be done independently I think, such as Ang Trapaeng Thmor.

Got in touch with Sam Vaesna. Kinda pricy. Went exploring today. And you are right. After you leave the city it is pretty bare. No guest houses that i saw.
I will explore some more. The lake is very low now so not going to the lake this trip.
