has anybody else seen a red kite in the midlands? We saw one fly over Norton Stourbridge yesterday Sunday being mobbed by two crows!.

Hi,

There was one drifting over Sandwell Valley last Wednesday (4th May) and I had a report of one over Clent Hills last Friday (6th May). I'd guess it's possibly the same bird wandering the area. Always lovely to see them, especially in less expected locations.

Cheers

There are, presumed, non-breeding or prospecting wanderers here and there. I record one nearly every month around the greater Stourbridge area, it won't be long before they breed locally - there are double figures on the Hereford border.. I looked at 4 nests within that area last year:t:

It is surprising how frequent they are seen, even in urban areas. Time spent sitting down at a high point for a bit of vismig or just looking across the skyline can be quite rewarding. For instance, Osprey have to fly over 'dry' land between suitable wetland areas, with the high point of Sedgley Beacon in Dudley being a good example.

Good Birding :t:

Seen Red Kite at Stourbridge and Long Mynd recently I regularly spot wandering birds where I work just north of Cheltenham ( Chiltern birds??? ) Look like they are closing in on us from all directions.
