Another non-birding break but with a bit of birding included.

A good start at a sunny, frosty Schoenfeld Airport with the 1st bird of the trip a Rough-legged Buzzard over the airfield. There was a Green Woodpecker on waste ground on the north side of the airport railway station, seen from the RB14 train whilst waiting to head into the city centre.

A glimpse of a Goshawk and an even briefer glimpse of a probable Goshawk yesterday afternoon in Tiergarten.

Today we went to Karower Tieche which although not as good as in January (we saw no geese or cranes) did produce 4 Great White Egrets together and a Hawfinch with plenty of commoner birds. Off to the big Silvester party at Brandenburger Tor now.

A nice couple of hours at Schloss Charlottenburg this afternoon. Lots of birds including Goshawk, Hawfinch, Middle-spotted Woodpecker, Short-toed Treecreeper and Mandarin as well as several Red Squirrels.

Thanks. We went to Spandau a few years ago. Good views of Goshawk.

Today we had a late afternoon flight and wanted to see a part of Berlin we hadn't seen before so we went to Kopenick. The only birds of note were a few Goosanders from the pleasant 68 tram to Alt-Schmockwitz. Great lunch in the Ratskeller in Kopenick.

I'm already jealous of your Goshawk views. Didn't see even one of them in 2016 (the best I could manage to find was an unidentified Accipiter).

We did quite well. I've seen two in the UK this year, two, which is more than most years (and two more than many!).

Schloss Charlottenburg has been quite reliable for Goshawk. We see them on most visits (always early January). One year we watched the pair for several minutes over the lawns to the rear of the palace and coming very close.
