Hi, we took this picture in the southeastern corner of Arizona at the end of May, in an oak-pine canyon habitat. I have a feeling which lizard it is, but I'd like some other opinions. The colors don't quite match up to the whiptail I think it is from what I see in my reptile field guide (Audubon, very old edition).

Sorry for the poor quality!

My money would be on it being a Chihuahuan spotted whiptail. The only other whiptail that I think would be close would be the Texas spotted. I don't think its a Texas, however, based on its pattern of spots (being over the whole of the back & not just on its sides) & where you located it. Nice pic!

Thanks, Dierdra, that's what I thought too, only the head and tail of this lizard seemed to have more blue than other pictures I've seen of the Chihuahuan. Perhaps that coloration is an indicator of age or gender for whiptails. I don't know, I'm new to the reptile game!

(Thanks for the Peterson tip!)
