B-300 on a 70/300m lense. (1 Viewer)

I have a B-300 HQ Converter which I use on my C750.
I have recently upgraded to a Canon 350D and Sigma 70/300mm Apo 2 lense.
I am considering purchasing a 58mm to 55mm step down adapter to attach the B-300 to my sigma lense. This seems to be a cheaper way to achieve more reach from my lense.
My concern is that the extra weight of the B-300 will be too much for my lense , will this combination of lenses work or is it not really worth the effort?

Thanks
Dave.
