This is being stripped bare by the birds especially by the tits. I don't mind but what is it?

It's Lilac. I can see some seeds from this years' flowers, but tits are more likely to be interested in insects than seeds. I find Lilac is generally insect-unfriendly so it would be interesting to know what they are finding.

Probably insects but as you can see its being stripped?????

Here is a stem.Sorry the piccy is not very good can't be arsed to get my D70 out.
