zeiss 10x25 classic coatings (1 Viewer)

I have a pair of these that just say "P" i suppose that is phase. there is no "t" on it. They are from 1990 and until i looked at the new ultraview 10x25 by leica i thought they were great. However the leica blows it away in brightness and contrast. The zeiss has great resolution but cannot match at all the ultravid. Is this still the case with the 10x25 Classic (not the victory) or is the new 10x25 zeiss classic better or equal to the Leica ultravid. Has Zeiss made changed to it since 1990?

yulplo: A year or so ago I compared all the top brands of 8x20 (but before the Ultrvid appeared) and saw little difference in optical performance. The Nikon was a little bit better than the others (better edges and contrast), and the Zeiss Classic had a bit more distortion. My experience is not dissimilar from other comments on BF. I suspect that the coatings are improved every few years, and hence yours would have been good for the time, but are not as good as the best modern ones. Many manufacturers do not make any mention of changes to the coatings though that's not to say that they don't improve them. Some such as Swarovski register trademarks for them (Swarobright, Swarodur), and make a big song and dance when they change the coatings on existing models (hence the binocular looks the same).

Best to avoid looking through recent examples!
