Sunday October 29, 2006:
The Sunday bird walk went to the The Little Qualicum River Estuary and the Little Qualicum Fish Hatchery.
Twenty birders found the following forty-five species
COMMON LOON, HORNED GREBE, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE,
TRUMPETER SWAN, AMERICAN WIGEON, MALLARD, NORTHERN PINTAIL,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, GREATER SCAUP, HARLEQUIN DUCK, SURF SCOTER,
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON MERGANSER,
HOODED MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE, REED-TAILED HAWK, BLACK TURNSTONE,
DUNLIN, BLACK OYSTERCATCHER, BONAPARTE'S GULL, MEW GULL, CALIFORNIA GULL, HERRING GULL, THAYER'S GULL, GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL, BELTED KINGFISHER, NORTHERN FLICKER, STELLER'S JAY, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE,
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, AMERICAN ROBIN, VARIED THRUSH, EUROPEAN STARLING, SONG SPARROW, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, HOUSE FINCH and a flock of PINE SISKINS.

Saturday October 28:
A SNOW BUNTING has been seen in the gravel parking area of Yellow Point Park just off Yellow Point Road in Cedar for the last couple of days..

Thursday October 26:
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was spotted near the golf driving range in Duncan.

Tuesday October 24:
A juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was sighted at Somenos Marsh in Duncan
A BARRED OWL was seen on the 13th hole at Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville.
A PILEATED WOODPECKER was seen in ayard along Drake Street in Nanaimo.

Sunday October 22:
A MOURNING DOVE was spotted at the Jingle Pot R.V. Park in north Nanaimo
The Sunday bird walk went to Buttertubs Marsh in nanaimo. Sixteen birders found the following forty species:
PIED-BILLED GREBE, GREAT BLUE HERON, CANADA GOOSE, WOOD DUCK, AMERICAN COOT, MALLARD, HOODED MERGANSER, GADWALL, RING-NECKED DUCK, AMERICAN WIGEON, BALD EAGLE, RED-TAILED HAWK, ROCK PIGEON, NORTHERN FLICKER,DOWNY WOODPECKER, NORTHWESTERN CROW, COMMON RAVEN, STELLER'S JAY, CASSIN'S VIREO, CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEE, BUSHTIT, BEWICK'S WREN, MARSH WREN, SORA, KILLDEER, AMERICAN ROBIN, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, SPOTTED TOWHEE, SONG SPARROW, FOX SPARROW, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD, BREWER'S BLACKBIRD, PURPLE FINCH, HOUSE FINCH, PINE SISKIN'S and HOUSE SPARROWS.

Saturday October 21:
EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in the 200 block of Miltion Street in Nanaimo.

Friday October 20:
A WESTERN SCREECH OWL was seen and photographed at McGregor Marsh across from the Qualited Duck off Rutherford Road in north Nanaimo

Tuesday October 17:
ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS were seen in the 1400 block of Roseann Drive and in the 4200 block of Clubhouse Drive in Nanaimo.
Two GREAT HORNED OWLS were seen at dusk on the 18 Fairway at the Cottonwood Golf Course in south Nanaimo.
