Kingfisher behaviour (1 Viewer)

There are a couple of Kingfishers in my local area. Until recently I had only ever seen one at a time but after a night of rain when the river was overflowing and very choppy I saw two together.
They were making a lot of noise and one was 'chasing' the other in circles. Then they both flew across the river straight towards me and came so close that I had to move for the fear of them flying into me!
Usually when I have seen the Kingfisher before it darted away quickly - did weather conditions have something to do with their behaviour as above or when there are two is this common behaviour. Thanks for any help!

hi
Kingfishers like their space and its usual that they chase off competitors ,they have been known to kill interlopers.

Hi Cyberem78,
Sounds like territorial dispute - maybe one had been pushed off its normal territory by flooding(?). They can get vicious.

Yes as others said kingfishers are highly territorial and with the recent down poor rivers are flowing too fast in the usually hunting areas hence competition is fierce for the remaining hunting areas.
