Carrion crow behaviour (1 Viewer)

The gaffer

Enthusiastic amateur
I have a carrion crows nest approxminately 150m from my house (as the crow flies of course) which can be easily seen through binoculars.

Quite often when collared doves come to the my bird table or feeders one of the crows will fly over and scare off the collared doves by flying directly at them. Once done the crow flies off and goes back the nest or the look out tree next to it.

Can anyone explain why the crows do this?

Do they see the doves as competitors for food?

I have not seen them do it to any other bird including ferral and wood pigeon.

The crows do not feed at the bird table but very occasionally drink from the bird bath.
