Hawaiian bat (1 Viewer)

I got my first good look at a hawaiian bat, ('ope'ape'a) yesterday, our only native land mammal. It was repeatedly cruising up and down Stainback Highway on Hawai'i around 2600 feet elevation just after sunset. Stopped and watched for a while, to the annoyance of other motorists. I tried to get photos, but it was too dark already. Apparently they almost always roost in the same tree, so perhaps I'll be able to find it in the same spot again.

I've actually seen quite a few hunting above Stainback at sunset, above the junction with N Kulani Rd. I saw 6 one evening.
