Portland sea watching. (1 Viewer)

I'm heading down to Portland for the weekend 7-10 September and I'm keen to get some sea watching done (as well as loking for migrants!)

Can anyone give me some advice on sea watching from the obelisk area, observatory etc and any other local sites that are recommended. (I may have my four legged friend in tow so any dog friendly places ae especially welcome!)

Seawatching from the obelisk area will provide the best views and provides an element of shelter from the wind for the first 5 or so people lucky enough to get there first. If the wind is v strong and SW then Chesil Cove at the base of Portland often holds birds. Seawatching from the obs is a good social (and if raining) but the views are nowhere near as good as from the obelisk.

Good luck, Alan

Alan,

Thank you for your advice.

I've got to drop my partner off each morning for a course that she's attending over the weekend so I won't be able to get to the obelisk early- still may work in my favour as people may have gone home by then ! I'll keep watching the weather and keep my fingers crossed.

Bill.
