Back from the Amazon (1 Viewer)

I got back from the Amazon, where I was guiding a group of north-american fly fishers. Not a birding trip, so I didn't have time to go birding or photographing, but we still saw some interesting birds.

We went to the Caurés River, in North Amazonas State. During our first night at the boat, the light of it was attracting a great number of moths, which in turn quickly attracted a gorgeous looking Spectacled Owl. Travelling upriver I could pick a few nice species, such as Ivory-billed and Black-necked Araçaris (which according to field guides does not occur here), Cuvier's Toucan, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, Dusky, Festive and Orange-winged Parrots, Greater Ani, lots of Band-tailed Nighthawks at evenings, a single Sand-coloured Nightwak actually following our moving boat at night to catch insects attracted to the light, lots of Short-tailed Swifts flying above the treetops, some Band-rumped Swifts too, quite a few Ospreys, a soaring White Hawk, two soaring Black Haw-Eagles, Plumbeous Kites, Greater Yellow-headed Vultures (they soar beautifuly), Spotted Sandpiper, Black Skimmer, Scaled Pigeon, White-thighed Swallow, etc.

Wow, man! That's what you see in Amazon when you're not birding?? Fantastic! Most of my favorite familis are there: Ramphastidae, Caprimulgidae, Strigidae, Cathartidae... Only Bucconidae is missing!

And don't say the word "Ivory-billed" too loud round here! hehe

João, I did see some Bucconidae, like the Black-fronted Nunbird and Swallow-winged Puffbird, very common along river edges there.

What a thrill this had to have been , with so many interesting Neotropicals it must have been difficult to concentrate on the fishing , especially with the Nighthawk around the boat.
