Backyard friends (1 Viewer)

There's a couple of Tropical Screech-Owls in my area. I've always seen them and took some pictures before. This past week however I decided to try to make a special photo of them. So I put out a multi-flash setup at the backyard, under two big avocado trees. A somewhat "secluded" place, just what this species likes.

At the first night they came in to playback within a couple minutes, but would not come much close, probably worried with all those flashes. The next night one of them came right away and landed at the right spot, where I shot quite a few good photos, like the two below:

Then it suddenly flew off and I didn't see where (they are so silent flying). I looked around at the full moon light and can't see its silhouete. I avoid turning on the flashlight as I found out that will scare them away sometimes, or make them much more suspicious.

Anyway, I look around and find it perched on one of my flashes! It just stayed there for 15 minutes allowing an extreme close approach from me. At times I was no more than 2 feet away, and it didn't show any signs of minding my presence at all! And it also didn't mind the flash going off either!

Hi Aracari

Fabulous pictures of your Screech Owls, Aracari
These photographs would be well loved in the main photo gallery. Just a thought ;)
The last on is just the best shot of all.

The detail on them is fabulous. The Owl was so patient to let you photograph him in the least likest place, very close to the flash. What star quality to do that for you

Well done! :t:

Regards
Kathy
