This post was created YESTERDAY. I told the smart little computer to post this at 6:00 whatever time, on September the fourth! Pretty amazing that we can select an exact sliver of time somewhere in the future, when otherwise we can't predict the future one second ahead of us? We can forecast weather by assuming that the clouds will keep rolling in the same direction, we can forecast when the birdies all the folk here are so dedicated to will begin to flutter off to their summering or wintering territories due to historical patterns. Time also has a pattern, and all of us and Einstein take it for granted that we will all be synchonized next Friday at 3. I don't know what timezone this blog is working in, but I can guaranatee you I won't be awake then to see if the post didn't simply wait ten minutes for me to go away then appear.
That's my rambling for today. If I think of anything else that makes me wonder, I'll post it.
Ah yes today at Jones Beach, NY, I was treated to the annual sighting of Lark Sparrow. Unfortunately the Buff-brasted and Baird's Sandpipers that were around recently have departed for now. Also a few neotropical migrants that were reported had moved on, including Tennesse Warbler and some Eastern Kingbirds. Least Terns are still in the area, as are Common and Forster's, and oddly, a few Black Terns. I first noticed 17, then the next count was 12, and now they were down to 2, and they flew off as I watched.
Hopefully migration will kick in soon for the landbirds. More birds equals more posts!
