This blog is intended to follow my progress this year in my pursuit of obtaining some worthwhile bird photographs.
Very much a beginner, with limited funds but almost unlimited time, I want to capture photographs that are more than mere record shots. I am not expecting many rare or even unusual species, but want to do justice to any bird that cares to pose for me.
Wish me luck and good light.

More firsts for the garden.

Posted Monday 13th December 2010 at 15:05 by Denny Woodthorpe
The weather has been a little milder today (Monday) and, suprisingly, it has meant more birds in the garden. Nearly all the snow has gone and I would have thought that the birds would have been out in the countryside, but, no, they are all in my small back garden.
Two new visitors are a Stock Dove and a female Reed Bunting (identified by this terrific site).
Add these to the bramblings (3), pied wagtails (2) and all the other finches and usual visitors, have made the garden a very busy place. It is costing me a fortune in feed as some of the feeders need filling twice a day !!! Up to 30 starlings take a good portion of the food. I have bought some cheaper mixed seed to put in a tray on the floor and this helps, but they still attack the other feeders with gusto. Twenty Goldfinches get through the sunflower hearts pretty quickly as well.
My garden is only about 15 metres long by 10 metres wide, so it gets pretty congested. (Heathrow of the avian world).
As I type this, I am waiting for the delivery of a new camera (Canon 60D) which should have been delivered today, but it looks as if it might be delayed. Very annoying, especially as we are out tomorrow and Wednesday.
Ah, well, I suppose I've waited long enough, so two more days will not be forever - it will just feel like it!
Was that a lorry?
Nope.
