This blog is to watch my journey in Missouri from bird watching infancy to adulthood. I just began learning to identify backyard birds. I want to share more than the facts about birds. You can find all of that you want in field guides etc. This is about the benefits of having a hobby like bird watching. I hope it encourages others to grow with me.

Feb 18th a windy warm up

Looks like winter might finally let go of us here in Missouri. I am anxious to see how that changes things as far as bird species. Yesterday, I saw a flock of geese flying overhead and they were flying North! I am thinking that is a good sign for us.

I noticed the black-capped chickadees are back at the feeder but the blue jays keep screaming at them. I am not sure that I want to keep a feeder through warm months. I do have some concern for disease and other negatives of having bird waste closer to the house. I plan to keep some water available and I believe there is enough food naturally for the birds in this farming community to keep populations up to a good number. I may have to get suitable binoculars to see them a little farther than feeders near my windows.

I am enjoying this hobby and it feels good to get back to my roots of an interest in biology.
