Chengdu Bird guiding – [email protected] - Chengdu, Sichuan, the gateway to Tibet - to see more travel pics of Sichuan go to my travel blog at - http://chengdutravel.blogspot.com/
To see more of our birding pics go to - http://sichuanbirds.blogspot.com/
Grandala - spectacular enough when seen individualy - but as a flock; quite fantastic. The grey bird is the female.
We're all go at the moment - we guided this weekend - and pretty intensive stuff it was - trying to get as much into two days as possible. We've got today to recover, and back out tomorrow for 5 more days with a new group. After those guys have finished another single day off and we pick up the next people - tiring, but great fun.
Lots of good stuff as usual but a species that makes a huge impression on our guests is the Grandala - the bird that redefines the color blue. so since we're actually getting ready for taking out right as this moment I'll dedicate this short blog to the grandala and show a couple more pics of this Himalayan stunner.
That vivid electric blue comes to the fore when this bird flies.
We were lucky enough to get a flock of about 400 birds - which were feeding on berries on a scrub sided mountain habitat at about 2,500m.
It's good fun being bombed by Grandala!!!
At the moment the high passes round here are totally snow free - lets hope it stays the same for the next couple of weeks.
There I am - a big smile on me face - with our guest, and a glacier in the background It's pretty nippy up here - about 4000m - and quite an experience for anyone who has never before had the pleasure of "humping" around in this type of highly tiring thin-air habitat. Not to worry, just a quick 30min drive downwards and you're already in an easier environment.
