A Marvellous Morning

Posted Saturday 20th March 2010 at 20:36 by Francis Duggan
The nesting birds singing on bushes and trees
And warmth in the sunshine and warmth in the breeze
And daisies in plenty amidst the short grass to be seen
And the Townpark is looking so healthy and green
One can only feel joy at the sounds one does hear and the things one does see
In the beauty of Nature that is all around me
Butterflies flit in the sunshine brown spots on their wings of gray
One must thank Goddess Nature for such a nice day

Old Hibernia Again

Posted Saturday 20th March 2010 at 20:33 by Francis Duggan
I may never see old Hibernia again
Or walk in her fields in the wind and the rain
Or in the chilly dawn hear the caw of the gray crow
When the old hill is wearing his cold hat of snow
In my flights of fancy I hear the fox cry
In the field by the hill when the moon's in the sky
Or in Spring hear the lark carolling as upwards he flies
It's not very hard at all to visualize
The birds one can recognize by their call or their song
And the...

One Born To Sing

Posted Saturday 20th March 2010 at 20:31 by Francis Duggan
In the coastal town suburb melodious and clear
The flute of the magpie so pleasant to hear
The silver billed magpie one born to sing
In Summer and Autumn and Winter and Spring
How lovely to hear his kind on a cold Winter's night
Fluting in the Townpark in the faint moonlight
In their breeding Season their own kind not a friend
They sing night and day with borders to defend
None better at singing than them it would seem
The Australian...

Parent Ducks Are Feeling Worried

Posted Saturday 20th March 2010 at 20:28 by Francis Duggan
Parents ducks have their young ducklings for to care for and defend
Against crows and magpies and other predators none to them does seem a friend
To the hungry kookaburra they would make a tasty treat
A downy young and tender duckling would be very nice to eat.

Parenting in the wild kingdom for parents can be a cause for stress
Loss of young to the predators a cause for great unhappiness
like humans they mourn for their dead offsprings they too feel...

On A Drowned Magpie

Posted Friday 19th March 2010 at 20:40 by Francis Duggan
Quite powerless to help it since I cannot swim
And it's chances of survival to say the least slim
It flapped it's wings desperately as it did drown
In the river three miles from the big coastal town.

On learning to fly into the river it did fall
To survive like us birds do need luck after all
A fact of mortality and facts do never lie
Is like people birds too in their young lives do die.

Quite powerless to help it with alarm...
